New Carrie 2013 Remake Trailer Out

Posted on 5:47 PM by Unknown
While I haven't been that vocal, I've been dreading the remake of Carrie for about a year now.  The Brian De Palma original is a classic and one of the best films of all time (and, yes, I even loved and will defend the split-screen madness during the climax).  There isn't one thing I would change.  Efficient, evocative, and intense, the horror film is filled with spot-on performances from its leads to its smallest parts.  Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie were brilliant, but how can you replace the meddlesome Betty Buckley and supremely cuntish Nancy Allen?  You can't!  While things get recycled all the time, I have so few movies I'm "protective" of, that it stings slightly, when a personal favorite gets remade for a new generation.  It's silly to get bothered by this, I realize, and I'm getting to the point where I can just laugh.  The remake does and will not diminish that which was there first and will always have the final word.  Not that I believe I will enjoy the final product (I expect to wait for VOD), I have to say, as far as trailers go, this one is pretty decent.  And, the presence of Chlöe Grace Moretz, who is normally an anathema to my senses, doesn't look as annoying as she usually is (closer to remotely likable like she was in Dark Shadows, another remake).  I also feared Julianne Moore going over the top, but she seems to be exercising some restraint in this showy role of a sexually repressed and abusive mother.  Missing, however, is the bitchy, irreverent 70s vibe, of course (which is hard finding outside that decade), which helped make the original so great.
Subtle homage to the split-screen or wishful thinking?
Forced perspective shot reminiscent of De Palma?
Complete with guy grabbing his junk.  Yum.
Judy Greer coming right for you?  If the camera doesn't
go to the action, let the action come to you, I guess
It pretty much reveals everything, but, then again, a lot of us already know what happens.  And, does it mean anything that this trailer hit on a late Thursday night (showing a lack of confidence)?  Or does it also debut in theaters this weekend before new films and is par for course?  What do you think?
Okay, Moretz looks believable here ...
... but here she looks like she's acting ...
... and here.
Pig blood or excrement?
I guess we won't be seeing a silhouette of Chris Hargensen
slapping her boyfriend Billy under the stage.  *sigh
Call Carrie and tell her she should have never come
back from the dead.
