It's better for one to focus on the positive and remain hopeful and optimistic in just about any given situation, if not all. While I can certainly be an overly critical cunt when it comes to what is out there on the current cinema landscape, I really do try to look for silver linings. I promise. While I didn't have the patience for Chan-wook Park's original Oldboy (it was harder for me to sit through and more visually frenetic than a Baz Luhrmann film), and Spike Lee quite often misfires, I'm excited about this poster. Right now. In this moment. It's very simple and to-the-point (A man loses twenty years of his life and nothing good can come out of it; very Count of Monte Cristo). So simple that one might accuse it of being uninspired and perhaps even plagiarized. But I love it. Love it enough to say something positive and public. It probably won't dawn on me until later what is resembles in the abstract. It kind of reminds me of a matchstick for some reason, which still works in its favor. Perhaps I should start paying more attention to movie posters and share the ones I like. The first film also had a great one-sheet for the American release. Sometimes, recent films can be as good as, if not better than its great poster art.
